Kiggans Statement on Santos Expulsion

WASHINGTON, DC: Today, Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (VA-02) released the below statement on her vote to expel Congressman George Santos (NY-03) from the U.S. House of Representatives following a report from the Ethics Committee detailing numerous illegal acts and other wrongdoings:

“I previously withheld judgement on the serious allegations against Congressman Santos and twice voted to provide him with due process as the House Ethics Committee continued its investigation. However, after reviewing the Committee’s November 17th report, I believe Mr. Santos is unfit to hold Congressional Office.

“We must have the highest standards of behavior and ethics in the U.S House of Representatives and hold people to them. Unfortunately, Congressman Santos has not met those standards. 

“Americans’ trust in their elected officials is at an all-time low. During my time in the Navy, I embraced the organization’s values of honor, courage, and commitment. The people of Virginia’s Second District deserve nothing less from their Member of Congress, and I will continue to embody these values in Washington. I will continue to demand the same from my colleagues in Congress as well – no matter which side of the aisle they are on. All Members of Congress have a responsibility to maintain the integrity of our government institutions.”
