Kiggans to Austin and Milley: We Trust You with Our Children Who Serve; Give Them What They Need to Complete the Mission
WASINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley testified before Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (VA-02) during a House Armed Services Committee hearing on the “Fiscal Year 2024 Defense Budget Request”. Prior to her questioning, the Congresswoman directly addressed both Secretary Austin and Chairman Milley:
“I just want to – for a moment – speak on behalf of all military moms and dads out there. I worked very hard to be able to look both of you in the eye and… to remind you that we trust you with our most precious possession – which is our children. So please ensure that they have the resources that they need to be able to defend our great nation,” said Congresswoman Kiggans.
Following those remarks, the Congresswoman’s line of questioning focused on quality-of-life issues for service members, the current state of the military’s industrial base; specifically, the troubling closure of four dry dock facilities at shipyards on the West Coast, and the growing strategic relationship between China and Russia.
