WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (VA-02) voted in favor of the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2027, legislation that will extend government funding at Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) levels through December 4, 2026 to prevent a lapse in government funding while Congress continues to work through Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) Appropriations.

The clean continuing resolution (CR) ensures critical government functions remain operational, protects national security priorities, and avoids disruptions to essential federal services and benefits millions of Americans rely on every day.

“My Republican colleagues and I have passed three of the full-year Appropriations bills for FY27 on the House Floor. Unfortunately, our colleagues in the Senate have yet to pass one. This threatens another partisan shutdown which would jeopardize timely paychecks for our men and women in uniform as well as our federal workers, and disrupt SNAP benefits for vulnerable Americans,” said Congresswoman Kiggans.

With the September 30th deadline quickly approaching, the Continuing Appropriations Act is a stopgap to ensure the federal government remains open if Congress isn’t able to pass the nine remaining Appropriations bills. While the bill extends FY26 funding levels through December 4th, Congress will continue to work through the FY27 Appropriations process.

Kiggans said, “While a continuing resolution is never my preferred outcome, I am committed to keeping our government open and working for Virginia’s Second District. This bill is a short-term stopgap to avoid a lapse in federal services due to potential partisan gridlock. I’ve supported all three of the FY27 Appropriations bills the House has seen thus far, and I look forward to advancing the nine remaining bills to fully fund our government through 2027.”

Background:

Since entering Congress in 2023, Rep. Kiggans has repeatedly voted to keep the government open when partisan bickering threatened a shutdown. 

Most recently, the longest shutdown in American history shuttered Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and U.S. Coast Guard personnel as these agencies faced a funding lapse.
