Rep. Kiggans Champions the Stop Insider Trading Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (VA-02) cosponsored Rep. Bryan Steil’s (WI-01) legislation, the Stop Insider Trading Act. This bill would prohibit lawmakers from making new purchases of individual stocks while allowing them to purchase portfolios that are diversified. It also makes it mandatory for members to file a public notice 7-14 days prior to selling individual stocks.
Rep. Kiggans said, “Public service should never be a pathway to personal profit. Americans deserve to know that the decisions made in Congress are guided by the national interest, not a stock portfolio. The Stop Insider Trading Act sets a clear standard: no Member should be able to leverage their office for financial gain. At a time when confidence in our institutions is strained, this bipartisan step is about earning back the trust of the people we serve.”Rep. Kiggans also cosponsored the Ending Trading and Holdings in Congressional Stocks (ETHICS) Act.
