WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Jen Kiggans (VA-02) released the following statement after President Trump’s State of the Union address to the nation:

“Tonight, the American people heard directly from the President of the United States about the meaningful progress made over the past year to strengthen our nation, lower costs for working families, secure our border, and restore America’s leadership on the world stage. The strides we’ve taken to grow our economy, support small businesses, and stand up for our national security are helping to keep our country on the right track. We also celebrated so much that is good about our country and the reasons we should all be proud of our great nation.

At a glance, America’s economic forecast is strong. In just a year’s time, inflation has dropped to under 3% after reaching a 40-year high under the previous administration. Mortgage rates are at a three-year low, making home-ownership once again within reach for working class Americans. With gas prices hovering at the lowest levels since 2021 and grocery prices easing, families are finally seeing relief in their monthly budgets. Through the Working Families Tax Cut, a family of four in Virginia could see up to $14,800 increase in yearly take-home pay, an increased Child-Tax Credit, and a $6,000 tax deduction for seniors.

In contrast to the previous administration, our nation has witnessed decisive leadership that brokered a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and secured the capture and prosecution of the illegitimately elected narco-terrorist, Nicolás Maduro. These efforts are strengthening our military, building our defense capabilities, and restoring American deterrence. As a result, we are regaining respect on the world stage and putting America’s foreign adversaries on notice. Under this administration, America practices peace through strength and stands firmly in defense of its allies.

After having made major strides as a nation over the last year, the American people can rest easy tonight knowing that the country is on the right track. From extending the largest tax cuts in American history, to expanding access to quality healthcare, and investing in domestic manufacturing through the Working Families Tax Cut, this administration is taking meaningful steps to rebuild our economy. Together, these efforts are strengthening our national security, and ensuring opportunity and prosperity for generations to come. I look forward to continuing to work with this administration and my colleagues in Congress to deliver real, commonsense results that make Virginia’s Second Congressional District the best place to work, live, and raise a family.”
