Kiggans, Magaziner Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Preserve America’s Historic Battlefields

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Jen Kiggans (VA-02) and Rep. Seth Magaziner (RI-02) introduced the American Battlefield Protection Program Amendment Act of 2026 to extend and increase federal resourcing for the American Battlefield Protection Program (ABPP) through 2035. This legislation will continue the important work of preserving and restoring America’s historic battlefields by empowering local communities to maintain and honor the lands where our nation’s freedom was secured.
Congresswoman Kiggans said, “We have a responsibility, as Americans, to honor the legacy of those that came before us. While these battlefields are the sites for the most critical moments of the Revolutionary War, they are also graveyards for the brave soldiers that lost their lives in pursuit of our country’s independence. As we celebrate the 250th birthday of our nation, I’m proud to introduce this bipartisan legislation alongside Rep. Magaziner to preserve these sacred sites, protect our national heritage, and ensure future generations understand the cost of the freedoms we enjoy today.”
“America’s battlefields are a direct link to our history, each one telling the stories of the Americans whose incredible bravery has sustained our nation,” said Magaziner. “I am proud to co-lead the reintroduction of the American Battlefield Protection Program reauthorization bill to ensure future generations can experience, learn from, and honor our nation’s sacred ground.”
“We are deeply thankful that Representatives Kiggans and Magaziner understand the power of place of our nation’s hallowed ground,” said American Battlefield Trust President David Duncan. “These outdoor classrooms educate and inspire both current and future generations about some of the most fundamental moments in our country’s history.”
